LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION paying tribute to the World War II Veterans of
Clifton-Fine, New York, as they are honored by the Clifton-Fine Economic
Development Corporation on May 10, 2014
WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces who served so faith-
fully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at
stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during peacetime, deserve
the highest commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of this great Empire State and all Americans
find the greatest inspiration in the men and women of our armed forces,
according our revered veterans the highest respect, and remembering with
appropriate reverence those who stepped forth with tremendous courage,
prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to pay trib-
ute to the World War II Veterans of Clifton-Fine, New York, as they are
honored by the Clifton-Fine Economic Development Corporation on Satur-
day, May 10, 2014, at the Clifton-Fine Central School Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, "The Clifton-Fine Community Honors Our World War II Veterans"
event expresses the collective admiration and heartfelt gratitude of
today's Clifton-Fine residents and all New Yorkers to those courageous
citizens who, more than 60 years ago, went off to fight a war half a
world away to protect our cherished ideals of freedom and democracy; and
WHEREAS, The distinguished World War II veterans being honored on this
poignant occasion for their meaningful contributions to this great
Nation, our State, and their own proud communities are: James E. Glavin,
Betty Johns, Gordon Taylor, Robert Noody, Ed DeCora, Harold Pickering,
Hank Moshano, Erno Moore, Fred Hall, Amos Reil, and Horace Foster; and
WHEREAS, Out of the bloodshed and carnage of World War II rose shining
examples of selfless courage, heroism and glorious deeds performed under
the most dire of circumstances and against a background of unprecedented
loss of lives; and
WHEREAS, From the moment of the first attack upon Pearl Harbor, to the
declarations of victory in Europe and Japan, these hostilities waged
upon the entire world took an enormous toll in terms of human casual-
ties, including approximately 68,000 wounded and nearly 28,000 killed or
missing in action from New York State; and
WHEREAS, Indeed, citizens of New York State, more than any other, went
off willingly to the battlefields, seas and skies of Europe and the
South Pacific to risk their lives, including a large number who hailed
from Clifton and Fine, New York; and
WHEREAS, With indomitable spirit and fortitude, our forefathers and
foremothers endured fierce battles and particularly harsh conditions,
giving of themselves in the name of preserving human liberty, and the
American way of life; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is very pleased to have this opportu-
nity to express its gratitude to the men and women of Clifton and Fine,
New York, who served as members of the United States Armed Forces during
World War II for their tremendous sacrifices made for our Nation and for
the benefit of all Americans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to the World War II Veterans of Clifton-Fine, New York, as they
are honored by the Clifton-Fine Economic Development Corporation on May
10, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James E. Glavin, Betty Johns, Gordon Taylor, Robert Noody, Ed
DeCora, Harold Pickering, Hank Moshmio, Erno Moore, Fred Hall, Amos
Reil, and Horace Foster.
