LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Donovan Fields of Newburgh Free Academy
upon the occasion of being selected as the 2014 TIMES HERALD RECORD
Varsity845 Boys Basketball Player of the Year

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Donovan Fields of Newburgh Free Academy upon the occasion of being
selected as the 2014 TIMES HERALD RECORD Varsity845 Boys Basketball
Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Donovan Fields was selected for this prestigious honor in
recognition of his outstanding athletic achievements, as well as his
exemplary character demonstrated both on and off the court; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed young man led Newburgh to its first New York
State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHAA) Section 9 Class
AA title in three years; he scored a career-high 36 points to help his
team win the championship game; and
WHEREAS, The son of Mike and Evelyn Fields, and the brother of Mike
Jr. and Alexis, Donovan Fields has been playing basketball since he was
four years old; he made his debut for Newburgh Free Academy in his
Sophomore year averaging 13 points per game; he followed up this impres-
sive performance his Junior year, improving his skills in all categories
and being named a Varsity845 second-team all-star; and
WHEREAS, In his Senior year, Donovan Fields showed tremendous athletic
ability and character; he averaged 18.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per
game, while leading his team to the championship; and
WHEREAS, Donovan Fields has also played admirably in his position as
starting quarterback for Newburgh Free Academy; he scored two touchdowns
and rushed for 160 yards in last season's championship game; and
WHEREAS, When this remarkable athlete is not playing sports, he dedi-
cates himself to his academic career, maintaining an A average; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Donovan Fields has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Donovan Fields of Newburgh Free Academy upon the occasion of being
selected as the 2014 TIMES HERALD RECORD Varsity845 Boys Basketball
Player of the Year, and to recognize his athletic and academic excel-
lence; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donovan Fields.
