LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending radio personality William K. De
Fossett, Jr. upon the occasion of the celebration of his 15th Anniver-
sary as host of the 3G Experience at WHCR 90.3 Harlem
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched by
the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have helped
shape the history of broadcasting in their area; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
the efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who give
of their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim
to benefit the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
radio personality William K. De Fossett, Jr. upon the occasion of the
celebration of his 15th Anniversary as host of the 3G Experience at WHCR
90.3, Harlem, New York, to be observed at a special event on Saturday,
May 10, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Brother Bill," William K. De
Fossett, Jr., is the creator of the 3G Experience, a unique four-hour
weekly gospel music radio program broadcast from the studios of WHCR,
the radio station of City College, CUNY; so-named to represent the Gift,
the Grace and the Glory, the 3G Experience, has been a lifeline to thou-
sands of listeners throughout the New York City area and across the
country; and
WHEREAS, Brother Bill's skillful mix of gospel music, enlightening
interviews with local pastors, politicians, and other distinguished
guests, and open forums in which listeners may express themselves,
provides encouragement and information to listeners seeking a mid-week
spiritual boost; the show is particularly popular with homebound persons
and senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, Brother Bill was born and raised in Harlem, and has main-
tained a profound commitment to his community throughout his worthy
life; under his inspired guidance, the 3G Experience has expanded into a
faith-based organization that trains young people in media and communi-
cation arts, provides mentoring for the children of incarcerated indi-
viduals, and offers a variety of counseling and training services for
its listeners and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Brother Bill has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the 3G Experience, he has used his knowledge
of the gospel music world to produce and host many concerts in Harlem
and along the East Coast; he presented a weekly "Enchanted Evening of
Gospel Music" at Harlem's celebrated Amy Ruth's restaurant, and the
Pathmark Gospel Concert Series; and
WHEREAS, Brother Bill has also been a judge at the World Famous Apollo
Theater's Gospel Amateur Night, as well as the Ringmaster at the Univer-
Soul Circus during its visit to New York City; most recently, this tire-
less man has begun a Gospel Showcase in Harlem where new talent is
discovered and developed; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished journalist, Brother Bill has been a news
reporter for many of New York City's local radio stations, and has also
been a contributor to the NEW YORK AMSTERDAM NEWS, the former NEW YORK
COURIER, and currently contributes to the HARLEM NEWS; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man proudly served his country in the
United States Army as an officer in the 369th Transportation Battalion,
the Harlem Hellfighter's, and is a Life-member of the 369th; he has also
worked for the physical well-being of his community as a member of the
New York City Fire Department's Emergency Medical Service; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the church community, Brother Bill, who
holds a bachelor's degree in Theology from Temple Theological College,
serves as the Minister of Music at Faith Memorial Baptist Church in the
Bronx, New York, and strives to maintain relationships with the clergy
and congregations across his community.
WHEREAS, William K. De Fossett, Jr. has, throughout his career and
purposeful life, served his community with integrity and devotion,
continuously striving to meet the needs of his listeners through enter-
tainment and enlightenment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend radio personality William K. De Fossett, Jr. upon the occasion
of the celebration of his 15th Anniversary as host of the 3G Experience
at WHCR 90.3, Harlem; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William K. De Fossett, Jr.
