LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the National Association of University
Women, Queens Branch, upon the occasion of its Scholarship Luncheon and
celebration of its 60th Anniversary on May 18, 2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge organizations which have made significant
contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the National
Association of University Women, Queens Branch, upon the occasion of its
Scholarship Luncheon and the celebration of its 60th Anniversary on May
18, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the National Association of University Women
(NAUW) is to serve women, youth and the disadvantaged in the communities
of this nation, as well as in developing countries, by addressing educa-
tional issues, advancing the status of women's issues, and strategically
partnering with allied organizations; and
WHEREAS, To this end, NAUW sponsors, promotes and conducts educational
activities designed to provide community outreach services to learners
at every level of development; it also provides assistance to individ-
uals who have not completed their education and need basic skills neces-
sary to function effectively in society; and
WHEREAS, NAUW's unparalleled commitment to fostering educational
opportunity is manifest in its direct support of students pursuing high-
er education; throughout its long history, NAUW has provided fellow-
ships, grants, and/or scholarships to innumerable undergraduate, gradu-
ate and doctoral scholars; and
WHEREAS, Through this esteemed organization's collaborations with
educational institutions and like-minded others, NAUW works to improve
educational standards and foster academic and intellectual attainment;
it also works in the public policy arena, issuing public statements
concerning the quality of education; developing and sponsoring research
programs pertaining to quality higher learning, and making available
literature and materials about educational initiatives, trends and
developments; and
WHEREAS, NAUW also sets its sights on broader issues, collaborating
with other organizations and agencies concerned with community and world
problems, including chronic health conditions such as HIV/AIDS, heart
disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is very pleased to have this opportu-
nity to salute the National Association of University Women, Queens
Branch, for its 60-year history of purposeful endeavor, and to wish this
worthy organization continued success in future years; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the National Association of University Women, Queens Branch, upon
the occasion of its Scholarship Luncheon and the celebration of its 60th
Anniversary on May 18, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the National Association of University Women, Queens Branch.
