LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending York College Alumni, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 26th Annual Scholarships and Awards Gala

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
York College Alumni, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 26th Annual
Scholarships and Awards Gala; this illustrious event will take place on
Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Antun's, Queens Village, New York; and
WHEREAS, The mission of York College Alumni, Inc. is to preserve the
value of York College, CUNY, by uplifting its image and visibility
through communication and working relationships with alumni, adminis-
tration, faculty, staff, students and the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1979, the members of this worthy organization
use their time and talents to support and further York College's educa-
tional mission, and to help its students realize their educational
goals; and
WHEREAS, York College Alumni, Inc. provides assistance to students by
annually awarding four scholarships to students who have achieved
academic excellence while also helping members of their community; the
Gilbert T. Boozer Scholarship is awarded to a freshman, the John B.K.
Aheto Scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, the York College Alumni
Scholarship is awarded to a junior, and the Mark A. Green Athletic Scho-
larship for Academic Achievement is awarded to an athlete; and
WHEREAS, In addition, York College Alumni, Inc. recognizes those alum-
ni who have made a difference in their communities by designating indi-
viduals for special awards; and
WHEREAS, Alumni who have excelled in their chosen field and have
contributed to the community through volunteer service receive the York
College Alumni Distinguished Alumnus Award; the York College Distin-
guished Graduate Award is presented to a member of the current graduat-
ing class who has maintained a high grade point average and has contrib-
uted to the community through volunteer service; distinguished service
to the Queens community is recognized through its Community Service
Award; and outstanding service to the organization is honored through
its Meritorious Service Award; and
WHEREAS, York College Alumni, Inc., in rewarding scholastic achieve-
ment in York College students, and paying tribute to those graduates who
give back to the community, truly reflects the commitment to excellence
in education and dedication to serving others that is the hallmark and
tradition of educational institutions throughout this great Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when associ-
ations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend York College Alumni, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 26th
Annual Scholarships and Awards Gala; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to York College Alumni, Inc.
