LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Arthur Viele upon the occasion of being
selected as Sullivan County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Arthur Viele
upon the occasion of being selected as Sullivan County's 2014 Senior
Citizen of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contributions to
his community through his valuable and much appreciated volunteer work;
and
WHEREAS, As Sullivan County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year, Arthur
Viele will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA) at the Hart
Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Arthur Viele and his wife of 53 years, Barbara, have lived in
Liberty, New York, for 52 years, and he is devoted to his son and daugh-
ter, as well as his seven grandchildren and one great- grandchild, all
of whom reside in Sullivan County; a member of the Happy Footers Square
Dancers' Club since 1973, he also enjoys fishing, gardening, and hunt-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Art Viele has been an RSVP Medical Driver for more than seven
years, logging an impressive 2400 hours of service; in addition, he has
been a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society Museum for more
than 22 years, and served as its Director for more than 11 years; his
involvement with the Society allows him to share his love of Sullivan
County with others, helping to educate people on its rich legacy and
history; and
WHEREAS, Many Sullivan County organizations have benefitted from
Arthur Viele's generous donations of time and attention, including the
Liberty Fire Department, the Liberty Patrolmen's Benefit Association's
Children Baseball Team, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scout Pack
No. 95, Liberty Lyon's Club and Sullivan Renaissance; this selfless man
is currently focused on his role as Treasurer of the Longbeards of
Sullivan County where he helps to instill in youth a love of all things
outdoor, which goes well beyond hunting and fishing; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Arthur Viele's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberation to
honor Arthur Viele upon the occasion of being selected as Sullivan Coun-
ty's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Arthur Viele.
