LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anne Sullivan upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Community Achievement Award by the
Garden City Chamber of Commerce on May 9, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Anne Sullivan has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anne Sullivan
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Community
Achievement Award by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, to be cele-
brated at its 12th Annual Pineapple Ball on Friday, May 9, 2014, at the
Garden City Hotel, Garden City, New York; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award commemorates outstanding professional-
ism and major contributions to the Village of Garden City through one's
profession; and
WHEREAS, Anne Sullivan has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Garden City High School's Girls and Boys Swimming and Diving
Team Coach for more than two decades, Anne Sullivan is a Garden City
High School graduate whose love of swimming began as a young girl; and
WHEREAS, Anne Sullivan has worked with the local youth for more than
30 years as a lifeguard, coach, instructor at the Garden City Pool, and
through the schools; her unwavering dedication and commitment to her
community have earned her this special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career, Anne Sullivan's girls'
squad has won a remarkable 15 consecutive Nassau County Championships
and has produced county and state individual champions as well as high
school All-Americans; her career winning percentage is an astounding
92.7 and includes a 103 meet winning streak between 2001-2012; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, her boys' team has produced four All-Americans
and are the current defending Nassau County Champions; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Anne Sullivan has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Anne Sullivan has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Sullivan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 Community Achievement Award by the Garden City Chamber of
Commerce on May 9, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anne Sullivan.
