LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring The Nissan Foundation upon the occasion
of its designation as recipient of the Corporate Recognition Award by
the Jewish Children's Museum on April 7, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those corporate enterprises throughout the State of New York
which have substantially contributed to the economic vitality of their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor The
Nissan Foundation upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the Corporate Recognition Award by the Jewish Children's Museum, cele-
brated at its 9th Annual Gala Dinner on Monday, April 7, 2014, in Brook-
lyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Nissan Foundation was created in 1992 as a thoughtful
response to a societal need; following the civil unrest that occurred in
Los Angeles earlier the same year, Nissan established the Foundation
with a substantial endowment to meet the needs of communities making up
South Los Angeles, and to foster a greater appreciation for cultural
diversity; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 20 years, The Nissan Foundation has disbursed
significant contributions to more than 100 nonprofit organizations
throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, In 2013 Nissan awarded large grants to support educational
programs which fostered a greater appreciation and understanding of
America's diverse cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, located in California, Georgia, Michigan,
Mississippi, New York, Tennessee and Texas, the 29 nonprofit organiza-
tions offered programs such as anti-prejudice training courses, cultural
heritage museum programming and initiatives that engaged students with
world cultures through arts, sports or performance; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to recognize for
their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and
publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic
humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges The Nissan Foundation's contributions to the local and State econ-
omies, and extends its highest commendation to this corporate enter-
prise, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the sparkling
success it has enjoyed thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor The Nissan Foundation upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Corporate Recognition Award by the Jewish Children's
Museum on April 7, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Nissan Foundation.
