LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sally Walker upon the occasion of being
selected as Washington County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sally Walker
upon the occasion of being selected as Washington County's 2014 Senior
Citizen of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to
her community through her valuable and much appreciated volunteer work;
and
WHEREAS, As Washington County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year, Sally
Walker will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA) at the Hart
Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Sally Walker has resided in Washington County in the Town of
Fort Ann, New York, for more than 50 years; a graduate of SUNY Platts-
burgh, she was an elementary school teacher at Fort Ann School for 30
years and she also worked for the family business which includes a dairy
farm, a trucking company and a store; and
WHEREAS, Sally Walker has been volunteering with a wide variety of
organizations for the past 30 years, including Adult Literacy, Fort Ann
School's Kindergarten round-up, school voting and steering committee,
and the Glens Falls YMCA children's swim group; a stalwart of many
fundraising efforts, she has baked for youth groups, the local volunteer
fire department, and the girls' soccer team, and collected and counted
soup labels and box tops for school credit, and cans and bottles for the
Parent Teacher Student Organization; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this dedicated woman has served her community as
a member of the Fort Ann Planning Board, the Fort Ann Central School
Board, the Fort Ann Revitalization Board, the Board of Director's for
Friends of Hospice, and the Washington County Dairy Princess Committee;
she has also been President and Vice President of the Washington County
Senior Citizens Council and currently serves as the President of the
Fort Ann Queen Anne Seniors Club; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Sally Walker's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sally Walker upon the occasion of being selected as Washington
County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sally Walker.
