LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lucy Abrahams upon the occasion of being
selected as Warren County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lucy Abrahams
upon the occasion of being selected as Warren County's 2014 Senior Citi-
zen of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her
community through her valuable and much appreciated volunteer work; and
WHEREAS, As Warren County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year, Lucy
Abrahams will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens
Day Luncheon hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA) at the Hart
Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Lake George resident Lucy Abrahams was born in Schenectady,
New York, and graduated from St. Columba's High School; after marrying
and moving to Glens Falls, New York, she dedicated herself to raising
her four children full-time, and then was employed outside the home as a
medical assistant, and then as an administrative assistant at Adirondack
Resource, from which she retired in 1991; and
WHEREAS, Lucy Abrahams began volunteering after her children were
grown, and she is currently a volunteer with her local hospice, her
church, and the local library, as well as the Lake George Senior Citi-
zen's Club where she has been an active and dedicated member, having
held the offices of president and vice president, and working tirelessly
on fundraising efforts to support the club; and
WHEREAS, This energetic and caring woman serves the Lake George Senior
Citizen's Club in countless ways; she started a monthly newsletter to
keep people updated on club events and information, arranges a range of
club activities, including trips, picnics, parties, bake sales, card
playing and a membership tea; in addition, she assists club officers by
typing and preparing agendas, and can be counted on to provide other
seniors rides to medical appointments, meetings, or luncheons or just to
listen; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Lucy Abrahams' distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lucy Abrahams upon the occasion of being selected as Warren Coun-
ty's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lucy Abrahams.
