LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gail Dewey upon the occasion of being
selected as Washington County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gail Dewey
upon the occasion of being selected as Washington County's 2014 Senior
Citizen of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to
her community through her valuable and much appreciated volunteer work;
and
WHEREAS, As Washington County's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year, Gail
Dewey will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA) at the Hart
Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 6, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, Gail Dewey, known affectionately as "Mrs. Greenwich," was
born and raised in Washington County, and currently lives in Greenwich,
New York; a graduate of Greenwich Central School, she started work as a
secretary for the school the day after her graduation, and retired from
that position in 1999, after 40 years of dedicated service; she also
worked for Rascher Real Estate for six years; and
WHEREAS, Gail Dewey is a loyal and dedicated volunteer transportation
dispatcher for the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP)/VAN GO
program in Greenwich; in this capacity she coordinates medical and disa-
bled transportation services for seniors with volunteer drivers; and
WHEREAS, A friend to all with whom she comes into contact, this
compassionate woman goes above and beyond her duties by taking phone
calls from seniors with their "everyday problems" and keeping track of
their welfare, checking to see if individuals are taking their medica-
tions, reminding individuals of their appointments, and making sure they
are safe at home; in addition, Gail Dewey assists seniors with Tuesday
morning grocery shopping trips; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Gail Dewey's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
and, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gail Dewey upon the occasion of being selected as Washington Coun-
ty's 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gail Dewey.
