LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard Roberts upon the occasion of his
induction into the Port Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rich-
ard Roberts upon the occasion of his induction into the Port Jervis High
School Alumni Hall of Fame; his outstanding accomplishments were recog-
nized on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the 2013 Port Jervis High School
Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet, which was held at
the Erie Trackside Manor in Port Jervis, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Port Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame annually
recognizes individuals who have achieved personal success and have made
a significant contribution to society, serving as role models to inspire
current and future generations of Port Jervis students; and
WHEREAS, Richard Roberts, Class of 1966, has dedicated his life to
serving the people of Port Jervis, New York; this esteemed man spent his
entire professional career as an educator in the Port Jervis School
District where he was a teacher at both Port Jervis Middle School and
High School, and served as the High School dean of students, summer
school principal, Middle School principal, and assistant superintendent
for instruction before his retirement in 2005; he continued to serve the
district as a member of the Board of Education after he retired, and in
2006, he received the Mid-Hudson School Study Council Award for Excel-
lence in Administration; and
WHEREAS, A committed public servant, Richard Roberts served the City
of Port Jervis as a councilman, and councilman-at-large, as well as
Mayor; in addition, he served with distinction as Orange County Legisla-
tor for eight years; and
WHEREAS, Richard Roberts has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, He has held leadership positions in numerous local organiza-
tions, including the Tri-States, Chamber of Commerce Board, Port Jervis
Free Library Board of Trustees, Laurel Grove Cemetery Association Board
of Directors, Port Jervis Fire Department, the Orange County Planning
Federation and Kiwanis; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Richard Roberts worked tirelessly as the City
Historian and longest-serving member of the Minisink Valley Historical
Society to preserve the history of his home town; he organized and led
two of Port Jervis' largest celebrations, the Diamond Jubilee in 1982,
and the Centennial in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Currently a licensed realtor in Port Jervis, Richard Roberts
has been accompanied throughout by his wife, Michele, their two chil-
dren, and four granddaughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those individ-
uals who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and
demonstrate a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard Roberts upon the occasion of his induction into the Port
Jervis High School Alumni Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Roberts.
