LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rebecca Ferris upon the occasion of
being selected as the Oneida County 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year by
the Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rebecca Ferris
upon the occasion of being selected as the Oneida County 2014 Senior
Citizen of the Year by the Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing
Care; this momentous occasion will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21,
2014, at the Roselawn Banquet Hall, New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care pauses
to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens;
Rebecca Ferris is being recognized for her outstanding contributions as
an Oneida County Senior Citizen; and
WHEREAS, Members of the older generation have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our free-
doms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have better
lives; nowhere in the nation is the legacy of their efforts more visible
and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Rebecca Ferris, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of her family and friends through her
love and respect for others, generously sharing the wisdom gained over
years of experiencing life to its fullest; and
WHEREAS, A resident of New York State since 1969, Rebecca Ferris
currently resides in Remsen, New York; she is a retired school teacher
as well as the proud mother of six children and loving grandmother of
six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Rebecca Ferris has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast and dedicated community volunteer, Rebecca Ferris
has served as a Hospice Palliative Care volunteer for 12 years, four
years of which she served as Development Council President and as a
member of the Hospice Palliative Care Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, In her role as Council President, Rebecca Ferris led a dedi-
cated group of individuals who were devoted to raising funds to support
Hospice's mission; she has cared for dying patients in their homes, and
supported their bereaved; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her volunteer work at Hospice and Palliative
Care, Rebecca Ferris gives of her time and energies to the Hope House
Food Pantry; she has also served on the Board of the Foothills Rural
Community Ministry and Food Pantry, as well as Herkimer BOCES; and
WHEREAS, Rebecca Ferris is the past President of the Board of the
Unity Hall Foundation, and currently serves as President of the Barne-
veld Free Library; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Rebecca Ferris has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Rebecca Ferris has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and commend those who have witnessed and contributed to the devel-
opments and achievements of our Nation, State, and communities over the
course of their noteworthy lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rebecca Ferris upon the occasion of being selected as the Oneida
County 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year by the Oneida County Office for
Aging and Continuing Care; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rebecca Ferris.
