LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kenneth and Enola Dickson upon the occa-
sion of being selected as the Oneida County 2014 Senior Citizens of the
Year by the Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kenneth and
Enola Dickson upon the occasion of being selected as the Oneida County
2014 Senior Citizens of the Year by the Oneida County Office for Aging
and Continuing Care; this momentous occasion will be celebrated on
Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Roselawn Banquet Hall, New York, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care pauses
to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens;
Kenneth and Enola Dickson are being recognized for their outstanding
contributions as an Oneida County Couple; and
WHEREAS, Members of the older generation have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our free-
doms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have better
lives; nowhere in the nation is the legacy of their efforts more visible
and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth and Enola Dickson, residents of Clinton, New York,
have been married for more than 60 years, and are the proud parents of
two sons along with grandchildren; Enola, a retired nurse, was employed
with Oneida County BOCES as a Psychologist, and Kenneth retired as an
Engineer from General Electric; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth and Enola Dickson have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Steadfast and dedicated community volunteers, Kenneth and
Enola Dickson are active members of the Tabernacle Baptist Church where
they participate in the refugee ministry and deliver flowers to church
members who are unable to attend church services; Enola has taught
Sunday School and was a Church Historian; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, with the help of other volunteers, Enola Dickson
formed Serendipity Group; the group was established for mental health
patients in an effort to provide support in teaching daily living skills
and socialization to patients; and
WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Kenneth and Enola Dickson have
been volunteering at Presbyterian Homes and Services for CNY; Kenneth,
who began as a driver to bring residents to appointments and social
outings, currently provides wheelchair transports; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Enola Dickson has been instrumental in fundrais-
ing for Desserts at Dusk, and volunteers in the gift shop; the couple
was recently recognized as Loyal Donors for the Presbyterian Homes Foun-
dation; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back to their community and truly making
a difference, Kenneth and Enola Dickson give of their time and energies
each Thanksgiving by preparing and serving meals at the Rescue Mission;
they have also volunteered for Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and have sat on
various civic community boards; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Kenneth and Enola Dickson have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Kenneth and Enola Dickson have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and commend those who have witnessed and contributed to the devel-
opments and achievements of our Nation, State, and communities over the
course of their noteworthy lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kenneth and Enola Dickson upon the occasion of being selected as
the Oneida County 2014 Senior Citizens of the Year by the Oneida County
Office for Aging and Continuing Care; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kenneth and Enola Dickson.
