LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joan Barker upon the occasion of her
designation as the recipient of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Excellence in Adjunct Teaching

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joan
Barker upon the occasion of her designation as the recipient of a 2014
SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching; and
WHEREAS, The Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching
recognizes consistently superior teaching at the graduate, undergradu-
ate, or professional level; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this illustrious award underscores SUNY's
commitment to sustaining intellectual vibrancy, advancing the boundaries
of knowledge, providing the highest quality of instruction, and serving
the public; and
WHEREAS, Adjunct teachers, such as Joan Barker who teaches at SUNY New
Paltz, are a key component of the SUNY faculty, providing top-quality
instruction and making an important contribution to academic success and
degree completion among students; and
WHEREAS, Joan Barker, a role model within the SUNY community, is truly
the best of the best, having demonstrated extraordinary dedication to
her students and an exceptional commitment to teaching excellence; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career thus far, Joan Barker has brought an
uncompromising standard of excellence to her work and a warm sense of
caring and concern to every person she educates; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Joan Barker and to wish her continued
success in her endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joan Barker upon the occasion of her designation as the recipient
of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joan Barker.
