LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Clayton J. Eurich, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Clayton J. Eurich of Warwick, New York, died on Thursday,
April 17, 2014, at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, Clayton J. Eurich was born on September 21, 1926, one of
eight children born to Jacob and Anna Rudy Eurich; and
WHEREAS. On his 17th birthday, Clayton J. Eurich displayed his ardent
patriotism by convincing his mother to accompany him on a trip to
Newburgh, New York, in order to enlist in the United States Navy; he
needed parental consent because he was under age; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man served honorably as a member of the United
States Navy during World War II; he was stationed in the Pacific Theater
where he lived and worked onboard a Landing Ship, Tank; and
WHEREAS, After completing his service to his country, Clayton J.
Eurich worked as an electrical apprentice for the Lehigh & Hudson River
Railroad, later becoming a conductor and engineer; upon leaving the
railroad he then started his own business Clayton Eurich Electric, which
he ran for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Clayton J. Eurich was a member, elder and usher for Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church; a member, past Commander and Chaplain of VFW
Post 4662; and a volunteer firefighter with the Raymond Hose Company of
the Warwick Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Clayton J. Eurich also dedicated significant time and ener-
gies to Boy Scout Troop 45 in Warwick, where he served for almost 50
years; during this period, he played many roles in the troop, including
Scout Master and Eagle Court Committee Chairman; he was awarded the
Silver Beaver, the Boy Scout's highest national award for adult volun-
teers; and
WHEREAS In recognition of his extraordinary commitment to serving his
community, Clayton J. Eurich was honored as 2008-09 Citizen of the Year
by the Warwick Valley Rotary Club and the citizens of Warwick; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his four sisters, Marie Mutchler, Viola
Faulls, Caroline Decker and Lydia Hornyak; and three brothers, Henry,
Jacob and Paul Eurich; Clayton J. Eurich is survived by his wife of 61
years, Henrietta Blaikner Eurich; his daughter, Susan Eurich; and his
son, Bruce Eurich (Judy); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many
friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Clayton J. Eurich leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Clayton J. Eurich, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Clayton J. Eurich.
