LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Judge Richard O'Callaghan upon the
occasion of his retirement after 18 years of distinguished service to
the Village of Mineola, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
individuals whose lives have been committed to the pursuit of excellence
and who bring great pride to the citizens of our great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Judge Richard O'Callaghan upon the occasion of his retirement after 18
years of distinguished service to the Village of Mineola, to be cele-
brated on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Piccolo Bussola, Mineola, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout a law career that has spanned four decades, Judge
Richard O'Callaghan served the people of New York with intelligence and
caring dedication, continuously striving to effectively fulfill the
duties of his position; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man received his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of
Arts degrees from St. John's University; he is a member of the New York
Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers; and
WHEREAS, Judge Richard O'Callaghan was a former senior partner for
many years at the law firm of Congdon, Flaherty, O'Callaghan, Reid,
Donlon, Travis and Fishlinger; he has worked in the field of personal
injury, defending cases in such areas as medical malpractice and product
liability, bringing over 150 cases to verdict in State and Federal
courts; and
WHEREAS, Since 1996, Judge Richard O'Callaghan has honorably served
the people of Mineola as Village Justice; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Judge Richard O'Callaghan was governed
by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human prob-
lems; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his judicial post, this remarkable man has
devoted countless hours to civic and community activities; he has
conducted seminars and mock trials at New York University, St. John's
Episcopal Hospital, the Suffolk County Podiatry Association and the
Suffolk County Medical Society; furthermore, he has also lectured on
trial techniques for the Nassau Academy of Law, and participated in the
Lawyer in the Classroom program; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and honor Judge Richard O'Callaghan upon the occasion of his
retirement after 18 years of distinguished service to the Village of
Mineola, and to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judge Richard O'Callaghan.
