LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mariah Walker upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Harambee Achievement Award by the Brook-
lyn Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mariah Walker
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Harambee
Achievement Award by the Brooklyn Section of the National Council of
Negro Women, Inc., which was celebrated at the 29th Annual Harambee
Celebration at the First A.M.E. Zion Church in Brooklyn, New York, on
Saturday, April 26, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Section of the National Council of Negro Women,
Inc. was organized on January 22, 1962; since its inception, the organ-
ization has worked to provide its members with a greater awareness of
community activities and to engage more fully in civic life; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Section of the National Council of Negro Women's
29th Annual Harambee Celebration recognizes young achievers for their
academic accomplishments, community service and church activities; and
WHEREAS, Mariah Walker has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Mariah Walker has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed young woman, through her dedication and hard
work, has exemplified the legacy of Brooklyn Section founder Dr. Mary
McLeod Bethune; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable woman has displayed
throughout her young life; and
WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Mariah Walker represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mariah Walker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Harambee Achievement Award by the Brooklyn Section of the National
Council of Negro Women, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mariah Walker.
