LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gwendolyn O. Johnson upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22,
2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gwendolyn O.
Johnson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Woman
of Valor Award, to be celebrated at the 7th Annual Men of Distinction
and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to recognize and pay just tribute to outstanding and
accomplished individuals whose leadership roles have had a significant
impact on the daily lives of the people of the State of New York, and
who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn O. Johnson is a Police Officer who has worked with
the New York City Police Department for 32 years; and
WHEREAS, For nine years, Gwendolyn O. Johnson was a Police Administra-
tive Aide working in the Manhattan central booking when she transitioned
to become a Police Officer in April 1991; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from police academy, Gwendolyn O. Johnson was
assigned to the 73rd precinct in the Brownsville/Ocean Hill area, and
today, is still assigned there; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn O. Johnson's numerous assignments included working
patrol, domestic violence, youth officer, and school unit; presently,
she coordinates and supervises the 73rd precinct auxiliary unit; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Gwendolyn O. Johnson
was educated in the New York City public school system, and attended
Medgar Evers College; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gwendolyn O. Johnson upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gwendolyn O. Johnson.
