LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alphonso Bonds upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Man of Distinction Award on May 22, 2014

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Alphonso Bonds
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Man of
Distinction Award, to be celebrated at the 7th Annual Men of Distinction
and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to recognize and pay just tribute to outstanding and
accomplished individuals whose leadership roles have had a significant
impact on the daily lives of the people of the State of New York, and
who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, For the past eleven years, Alphonso Bonds has held the posi-
tion of Assistant Principal at P.S./I.S. 323 in Brownsville, Brooklyn;
he considers himself blessed to have the opportunity to lead at the same
school he graduated from when he was a middle school student; and
WHEREAS, Alphonso Bonds approaches his interactions with his students
with a deep understanding of child development, and a sense of humanity;
his humanistic and professional style makes him effective when dealing
with parents, students, and staff; and
WHEREAS, Well-known for his commitment to equity and his dedication of
treating everyone with respect, Alphonso Bonds has devoted himself to
improving the quality of education in his school, and has worked tire-
lessly to create partnerships with Brooklyn Technical High School,
National Grid STEM Program, and Philip A. Randolph Go to High School, Go
to College; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 22 years, Crystal,
and their two children, Genesis and Alphonso, Jr., all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alphonso Bonds upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Man of Distinction Award on May 22, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alphonso Bonds.
