LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Yohimbe Sampson upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Man of Distinction Award on May 22, 2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Yohimbe Samp-
son upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Man of
Distinction Award, to be celebrated at the 7th Annual Men of Distinction
and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to recognize and pay just tribute to outstanding and
accomplished individuals whose leadership roles have had a significant
impact on the daily lives of the people of the State of New York, and
who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, For two years, Yohimbe Sampson has been the Resident Service
Director at Spring Creek Gardens in the East New York section of Brook-
lyn, New York; he was hired by Domain Companies due to the many hats he
has worn in the field of education and community advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Yohimbe Sampson's many duties and responsibilities include
developing educational, arts, quality of life, and social programming
for the approximately 2,000 youth, adult, and senior residents; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career at Spring Creek Gardens,
Yohimbe Sampson has created numerous opportunities and programs includ-
ing a computer lab, a summer youth enrichment program, after-school
program, academic tutorial opportunities, Senior Citizen Lunch Program,
job internship workshops, job internship opportunities, cultural arts
performances, arts programs for senior citizens and youth, healthy food
prep events, athletic tournaments, and peaceful community social events;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Yohimbe Sampson researched available funding
opportunities, and has located a significant amount of funds for his
successful projects; he also has partnered Spring Creek Gardens with New
York City's most prestigious people and organizations such as Senator
Sampson, Councilman Barron, New York Cares, The CCC, and Lincoln Center;
and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley,
Yohimbe Sampson has taught 7th grade World History as well as ELA,
worked for the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice, supported
families as a home counselor, developed literacy programs for the New
York City Department of Education, and designed and facilitated teacher
training programs at Jon Jay University, Columbia Teachers College, and
NYU Steinhardt School of Education; and
WHEREAS, A well-known New York City musician, Yohimbe Sampson is eager
to continue providing competitive and necessary programming to the
wonderful people of Brooklyn, New York; and be it further
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Yohimbe Sampson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Man of Distinction Award on May 22, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Yohimbe Sampson.
