LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Linda Calabrese upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Linda Cala-
brese upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Woman of
Valor Award, to be celebrated at the 7th Annual Men of Distinction and
Women of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to recognize and pay just tribute to outstanding and
accomplished individuals whose leadership roles have had a significant
impact on the daily lives of the people of the State of New York, and
who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, Linda Calabrese has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Linda Calabrese of Brooklyn, New York, has been a member of
the Bergen Beach Civic Association for 12 years; she has served as a
board member, 3rd Vice President, and was nominated as Chairperson of
the Board; today, she serves as 1st Vice President; and
WHEREAS, Since 2002, Linda Calabrese has been the Editor of Bergen
Beach's monthly newsletter, THE BEACHCOMBER; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Linda Calabrese donates her time and services to
the Visiting Nurse Service of New York Wig Program where she fits and
styles wigs for cancer patients in their homes to help with their
emotional recovery; through her generous spirit of training, she teaches
patients how to style and care for their wigs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Linda Calabrese crochets and knits cancer caps
which are given to patients when their wigs are distributed; and
WHEREAS, This altruistic woman also volunteers at the Veterans Admin-
istration's Long Term Facility in St. Albans, Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of close to 40
years; and their three children, as well as four grandchildren, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linda Calabrese upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Linda Calabrese.
