LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anella A. Tummings upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anella A.
Tummings upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Woman
of Valor Award, to be celebrated at the 7th Annual Men of Distinction
and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to recognize and pay just tribute to outstanding and
accomplished individuals whose leadership roles have had a significant
impact on the daily lives of the people of the State of New York, and
who have gone above and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, Anella A. Tummings of Queens, New York, was born in Jamaica,
and migrated to the United Sates at the age of 14; and
WHEREAS, Sixteen years ago, Anella A. Tummings joined the New York
City Housing Authority, which is the largest public housing authority in
the nation, providing decent and affordable housing for more than
620,000 New Yorkers to low and moderate income families; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure at the New York City Housing Authority,
Anella A. Tummings held increasingly responsible positions; currently,
she serves as Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President of
Administration, bringing a high level of customer service to her office;
and
WHEREAS, For the previous five-year period, she was a liaison between
New York City Housing Authority, federal, state, and local elected offi-
cials, government agencies, public housing residents, advocacy groups,
and other stake holders; and
WHEREAS, Anella A. Tummings holds a bachelor's degree in hospitality
management-travel and tourism from New York College of Technology; she
has applied her education, training, and knowledge to deliver excellent
customer service in assisting elected officials with constituent issues
and concerns, and bringing them to resolution; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Anella A. Tummings has been able to share her
knowledge and understanding of public and subsidized housing to empower
customers and stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, Anella A. Tummings has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; she has volunteered at numerous
functions for former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, most notably at Gracie
Mansion, and has participated in the International Tourism Event held in
New York in 2005; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, and their two
sons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice
in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anella A. Tummings upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Woman of Valor Award on May 22, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anella A. Tummings.
