LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Harriet Burris upon the occasion of
her retirement from River Hospital

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Harriet
Burris upon the occasion of her retirement from River Hospital; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Burtch, Dr. Harriet
Burris graduated from Alexandria Central School in 1967; and
WHEREAS, Upon her graduation from high school, Dr. Harriet Burris
attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving a Bachelor of
Science degree in life sciences in 1972 and SUNY Upstate Medical Center,
where she received her Doctorate of Medicine in 1976; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, Dr. Harriet Burris married John Burris and several
years later, the couple and their two children, Elizabeth and Catherine,
moved to Connecticut, where they lived for 24 years; and
WHEREAS, While in Connecticut, Dr. Harriet Burris worked in an Emer-
gency Department in a facility located at a summer resort; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, Dr. Harriet Burris and her family returned to the
Alexandria Bay area and the following year, she began working at River
Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her time at River Hospital, Dr. Harriet Burris
held a number of positions including Emergency Department Director,
Hospital Medical Director, and served as a physician within the Emergen-
cy Department and Convenient Care; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary doctor with a tremendous passion for medicine
for more than three decades, Dr. Harriet Burris has made a difference in
the lives of the countless patients whom she served; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Harriet Burris upon the occasion of her retirement from River
Hospital; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Harriet Burris.
