LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the President's Award by the
Garden City Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the President's Award by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce
which was celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2014, at the 2014 Pineapple Ball
at the Garden City Hotel, Garden City, New York; and
WHEREAS, Initiated in 2011, the Chamber of Commerce's President's
Award recognizes above and beyond volunteer spirit and contributions
within the Garden City community and beyond; Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. is
one such individual; and
WHEREAS, A Garden City resident for 43 years, Robert L. Schoelle, Jr.
has been called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless
civic and charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstint-
ingly; and
WHEREAS, For the past 34 years, Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. has served as
Chief Administrative Officer of the Incorporated Village of Garden City,
working with 18 mayors and many boards of trustees; and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. has served as a member of both the
Village Planning Commission and Board of Police Commissioners; his
contributions to numerous village projects have contributed remarkably
to the quality of life in the village; and
WHEREAS, A life member of the Men's Association, Robert L. Schoelle,
Jr.'s dedication and contributions toward its missions are exemplary and
have been well recognized; the 1997-1998 Men's Association yearbook was
dedicated to him, and he also received the Unsung Hero Award in 1996, an
award which was created by him some years before; and
WHEREAS, As was noted in the yearbook dedication, Robert L. Schoelle,
Jr. is a public figure who is visible on many fronts, yet never seeks
the limelight; the perfect diplomat, he guides and advises the Men's
Association with aplomb, and leads by example; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. has been a member of the
Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club, and serves on the RotaCare Board of
Directors; he has also supervised the Rotary Club's assistance to the
Salvation Army's Holiday Bell Ringing Project for more than 25 years,
and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award, the Rotary's highest honor;
and
WHEREAS, Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. has been recognized many times over
by those with whom he has served, including both the village trustees
and executive department heads for his integrity, dedication to the
Village of Garden City, and commitment to excellence in all of his
endeavors; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 40 years, Monica,
and their three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert L. Schoelle, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the President's Award by the Garden City Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert L. Schoelle, Jr.
