LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Rabbi Avraham Amar as an Exemplary
Rabbinic Figure after serving 25 years as the spiritual leader of the
Sephardic Nursing Home

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State are nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Rabbi Avra-
ham Amar as an Exemplary Rabbinic Figure after serving 25 years as the
spiritual leader of the Sephardic Nursing Home; he will be honored at a
celebration entitled "A Tribute to the Unity of Our Friends," on Sunday,
June 8, 2014, at the Sephardic Home, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Avraham Amar has brought to his ministry an overwhelm-
ing spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and enlight-
enment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties, while
always displaying the highest standards of personal and professional
integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Rabbi Avraham Amar attended the
famous yeshivas of Em HaBanim and Otzar HaTorah before emigrating to
Israel as a young boy; in Israel, he continued his religious studies and
was certified to be a teacher; and
WHEREAS, After proudly serving his country as a member of the Israeli
armed forces, Rabbi Avraham Amar resumed teaching and studied at Yeshiva
Merkaz Harav in Jerusalem, where he received his smicha; in addition, he
attained his teaching degree in Advanced Judaic Studies from Bar Ilan
University, and graduated from Heichal Shlomo as a fully certified
cantor; and
WHEREAS, For 20 years, this esteemed man dedicated himself to his
educational and administrative career in Israel, while ably fulfilling
the spiritual needs of his community; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Rabbi Avraham Amar began his rabbinate at the
Sephardic Home, where his kindness and devotion to his work quickly
earned him the respect of residents and staff; and
WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Sephardic Home became renowned
throughout the Jewish community for its high standards of excellence and
extensive religious programs; the spiritual guidance and encouragement
he displayed allowed residents to more fully observe and embrace their
Jewish roots; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Avraham Amar has dedicated himself to the spiritual
advancement of the Bensonhurst community; in addition to his outstanding
contributions to the lives of elderly residents at the Sephardic Home,
he also teaches at Magen David High School; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, this distinguished man of God has always
given enlightenment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his
care, and has administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual
and corporal needs of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Rabbi Avraham Amar as an Exemplary Rabbinic Figure after serving

25 years a s the spiritual leader of the Sephardic Nursing Home, and
extend to him the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rabbi Avraham Amar.
