LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Jeffrey J. Stribing,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Stribing of Lancaster, New York, died on February,
27, 2014, at the age of 55; and
WHEREAS, A village development director, and pillar in his community,
Jeffrey J. Stribing was active in numerous civic organizations; he
joined the Lancaster Lions Club in 1978, serving as president and chair-
man of the board; and
WHEREAS, A former village trustee who served on the board in two sepa-
rate stints in the 1980s and 1990s, Jeffrey J. Stribing served as commu-
nity development director since 2005, and as president of the Community
Development Corporation; he was also still serving as chairman of the
local Citizens Party at the time of his death; and
WHEREAS, From 1999 to 2000, Jeffrey J. Stribing was District Governor,
and served as Council Chair from 2000 to 2001; and
WHEREAS, While he was Governor, Jeffrey J. Stribing founded the Vision
Beyond Sight Center at the Ira Ross Eye Institute; and
WHEREAS, A former Eric County Sheriff's Deputy, Jeffrey J. Stribing's
latest project, for which he was instrumental in securing funding, was
the effort to reopen West Main Street, an area that has not been acces-
sible for more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Jeffrey J. Stribing was heavily involved in
securing grants to help revitalize Central Avenue, and promote facade
improvement; and
WHEREAS, A tireless worker, Jeffrey J. Stribing chaired the annual
White Cane Day drive, and during the last few years, he played the
village's Santa Claus at Christmasville, and appeared at the Bloomsbury
Lane Toy Shoppe; and
WHEREAS, This knowledgeable and loving man was the recipient of numer-
ous awards and accolades including the Robert J. Uplinger Award, and a
Melvin Jones Fellowship Award; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Stribing distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Stribing's commitment to excellence, and his spir-
it of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his son Hayden, Jeffrey J. Stribing is
survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their five children, Shaylee
(Frank), Amber (Eric), Jasmine (Steven), Chanelle (Bobby), and Trever,
as well as eight grandchildren, Landon, Avahleigh, Phelan, Rylan, Maver-
ick, Madisyn, Owen, and Zoey, of whom feel privileged to have been a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Jeffrey J. Stribing leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Jeffrey J. Stribing, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jeffrey J. Stribing.
