LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Susan and Samuel Goldberg upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the 2014 Couple of the Year
Award by the Jericho Jewish Center on June 12, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Susan and Samuel Goldberg have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Susan and
Samuel Goldberg upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the 2014 Couple of the Year Award by the Jericho Jewish Center, to be
celebrated at its 2014 Gala Evening of Tribute on Thursday, June 12,
2014, at the Center in Jericho, New York; and
WHEREAS, Susan and Samuel Goldberg have been members of the Jericho
Jewish Center (JJC) since 1972; this committed couple has distinguished
themselves in service to the Center and to the community; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Goldberg served as Educational Director of JJC for 33
years, eventually also serving as Baal Korah, Torah Reader, on Shabbat
and weekdays; in 2005 he took on the additional role of substitute read-
er in the Main Sanctuary on Shabbat and Festivals; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Goldberg grew up in Boston, Massachusetts', Roxbury
neighborhood, graduating from Prozdor Hebrew High School; he attended
Boston Hebrew College, where he spent his junior year at the Hayim
Greenberg Teachers Institute and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem; a
dedicated scholar, he concurrently earned a Bachelor of Arts in Near
Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University, and later earned a
master's degree in Hebrew Literature at Boston Hebrew College; he
retired as head of the Computer Department at the Solomon Schechter
School of Queens in 2013; and
WHEREAS, Susan Goldberg is a native of Buffalo, New York, where she
earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; she then attended the Boston
University School of Nursing, earning a master's degree in Rehabili-
tation Nursing, with a focus on education; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished woman, Susan Goldberg has pursued her nursing
career by overseeing a Home Health Aide training program for a home
health care agency; she created a specialized curriculum for caring for
Holocaust survivors, and, along with her husband, produced an instruc-
tional video on working in kosher homes; and
WHEREAS, Susan and Samuel Goldberg have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Goldberg has served for three terms as President of
the Queens-Nassau Principals Council, and served on the Board of the
Jewish Educators Assembly; Susan Goldberg is a life member of Hadassah;
and
WHEREAS, They are the proud parents of Daniel, his wife, Becky, and
Robert; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Susan and Samuel Goldberg have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Susan and Samuel Goldberg have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Susan and Samuel Goldberg upon the occasion of their designation

as recipients of the 2014 Couple of the Year Award by the Jericho Jewish
Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan and Samuel Goldberg.
