LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Willard Snyder posthumously after many
years of distinguished service to the United States Post Office
WHEREAS, Since 1775, when the Continental Congress named Benjamin Frank-
lin the first Postmaster General, the United States Postal Service has
served as an important bind which holds our Nation, and its people,
together; and
WHEREAS, The vital work of the employees of the United States Postal
Service supports the growth of commerce, and most importantly, ensures
the free flow of ideas and information which is so essential to our
democracy; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Willard Snyder
posthumously after many years of distinguished service to the United
States Post Office to be celebrated on Friday, May 23, 2014, at a Memo-
rial Day Ceremony at the Albany General Mail Facility in Colonie, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Willard Snyder passed away on February 4, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Willard Snyder, affectionately known as Buck, was a World War
II combat veteran; he served his country as a member of the United
States Army, assigned to Company F, 2nd Battalion of the 317th Infantry
Division; and
WHEREAS, A former Staff Sergeant, Willard Snyder was involved in 277
days of continuous combat, fighting German forces on many battlefields
in Europe including: Omaha Beach, Argentan-Falaise Gap, Moselle, Moselle
Assault River Crossing, Seille, Seille Assault River Crossing, Battle of
the Bulge, and Rhineland; and
WHEREAS, After World War II, Willard Snyder worked several jobs before
entering public service with the United States Postal Service; he was a
custodian at the Albany General Mail Facility until retiring in 1986;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Willard Snyder after many years of distinguished service to the
United States Post Office; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Willard Snyder.
