LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Goshen
Volunteer Ambulance Corps on May 3, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to organizations within the State of New York which provide
vital emergency medical rescue services; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 40th Anniversary of the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps; this
momentous occasion was celebrated with a Dinner Dance on Saturday, May
3, 2014, at the Harness Racing Museum, Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since June 19, 1974, the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps has
responded to medical emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, A small dedicated group, the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps
(GOVAC) provide the best and most professional emergency medical care to
the citizens and visitors of Goshen and Hamptonburgh, New York; and
WHEREAS, GOVAC received its first call, a motor-vehicle accident, on
June 28, 1974; in its four decades of service, they have traveled over
150,000 miles and answered more than 15,000 calls; and
WHEREAS, In addition, GOVAC formed the first volunteer EMS Bike Team
in Orange County, and has been named Orange County BLS Agency of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the
survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or
injury; throughout the 40-year history of the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance
Corps, its members have worked tirelessly to bring the best quality of
care to the residents of Goshen, New York and its surrounding communi-
ties; and
WHEREAS, GOVAC crew members are made up of students, teachers, health
care workers, truck drivers, business owners, office workers and fire-
fighters, who all come together to answer the call that a neighbor is in
need; and
WHEREAS, All the individuals associated with the Goshen Volunteer
Ambulance Corps, past and present, merit the highest commendation for
their contributions to the noble missions of this life-saving organiza-
tion; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community they so ably serve, GOVAC has
sponsored the Goshen Community Blood Drive for more than 30 years; its
Fall blood drive has, collected hundreds of pints of blood during a peak
blood shortage time; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, in conjunction with the Village of Goshen
Police, GOVAC has started Prescription Collection Days, during which
time its members collect outdated and unused drugs/medication to be
properly disposed of by the Police Department; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude to
those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life is
a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility their own by
serving as ambulance corps volunteers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance
Corps; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
