LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Louis Arrotta upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by Mount
Saint Mary College and his induction into the Mount Saint Mary College
Athletics Hall of Fame on April 5, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize individ-
uals from the sporting world who have distinguished themselves through
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Louis Arrotta
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Lifetime
Achievement Award by Mount Saint Mary College and induction into the
Mount Saint Mary College Athletics Hall of Fame; this auspicious occa-
sion was celebrated on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Elaine and
William Kaplan Recreation Center, Mount Saint Mary College, in Newburgh,
New York; and
WHEREAS, A valued member of the Mount Saint Mary College community,
Louis Arrotta, or Coach Lou, as many know him, coached baseball at near-
ly every level, including semi-professional, Little League, American
Legion and collegiate; and
WHEREAS, Louis Arrotta graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1954,
and played semi-professional baseball for the Newburgh Shapiro Jewels
before serving with the United States Army's 11th Airborne Division
stationed in Germany; and
WHEREAS, After completing his military service, this esteemed man
began coaching for the Newburgh Jr. American Legion baseball program; he
would spend 28 out of his 43 year coaching career with American Legion
baseball; in 1963, he co-managed his American Legion team to a state
championship; and
WHEREAS, In the 1970s, Louis Arrotta was a player, as well as coach
for the Kingston Yankees, a semi-professional team that competed in the
Tri-State League; and
WHEREAS, Louis Arrotta worked for IBM for many years and was also a
former associate baseball scout for the Chicago White Sox; and
WHEREAS, After retiring from IBM in 1990, Louis Arrotta continued his
coaching career at Mount Saint Mary College where he spent 12 years with
the Mount Saint Mary College Knights baseball team, including two
seasons as head coach; and
WHEREAS, During his time as head coach, Louis Arrotta led his teams to
a 46-29-1 overall record; in 2000, he was named the Skyline Coach of the
Year after leading the Knights to the Skyline title; he continues as
Coach Emeritus at Mount Saint Mary College; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his coaching career, a period of constructive
involvement, Louis Arrotta has stood constant in dignity, good grace and
humor; he has helped countless players achieve success both on and off
the field; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable man has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Louis Arrotta upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Lifetime Achievement Award by Mount Saint Mary College, and his
induction into the Mount Saint Mary College Athletics Hall of Fame on
April 5, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Louis Arrotta.
