LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Martha B. Graham for 24 years of dedi-
cated service to the Brooklyn Children's Museum's Board of Directors to
be celebrated on June 5, 2014

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Martha B.
Graham for 24 years of dedicated service to the Brooklyn Children's
Museum's Board of Directors to be celebrated at its 2014 Gala on Thurs-
day, June 5, 2014, at Three-Sixty Degrees in Tribeca, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 24 years, Martha B. Graham has rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service to the Brooklyn Children's Muse-
um Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Brooklyn, New York, since 1969, Martha B.
Graham is currently active in many civic affairs; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her professional retirement, Martha B. Graham was
Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at J.P. Morgan Chase
and Co.; in addition, she was the Manager of Public Education Initi-
atives at Chase Manhattan Bank; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her employment at Chase Manhattan Bank, Martha B.
Graham was involved in its programs, including the Lincoln-Douglas
Debates, a public speaking competition in collaboration with the New
York City Board of Education; when the program began in 1983, only seven
high schools had debate programs, while in 1997, eighty-nine schools
competed; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Manhattanville College, Martha. B. Graham was a
member of District 13 Community School Board from 1977 to 1980, and a
board member of Habitat for Humanity International from 1989 to 1993;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Lawrence, and
their three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her
life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity to the Brooklyn Children's Museum's Board of
Directors, Martha B. Graham has served with loyalty, honor and
distinction, and has earned the admiration, esteem and affection of her
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Martha B. Graham is governed by a keen
sense of duty and always shows a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Martha B. Graham for 24 years of dedicated service to the Brook-
lyn Children's Museum's Board of Directors to be celebrated on June 5,
2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Martha B. Graham.
