LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Raymond Schimmer upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished service to Northern
Rivers Family Services and Parsons Child and Family Center
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Raymond Schimmer upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to Northern Rivers Family Services and Parsons
Child and Family Center; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at
the Albany Country Club in Voorheesville, New York, on Tuesday, June 17,
2014; and
WHEREAS, Raymond Schimmer, a graduate of the Harvard School of Educa-
tion, began his career at Parsons Child and Family Center in 1982; he
served in a number of roles, including assistant executive director, and
director of residence and education; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, this esteemed man became executive director of
Parsons, where he served admirably for many years; and
WHEREAS, Raymond Schimmer's dedication to helping children and their
families led to him becoming the CEO of Northern Rivers Family Services,
the parent company that sets administrative and clinical direction for
Parsons Child and Family Center, and Northeast Parent and Child Society;
and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Raymond Schimmer was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; his
professionalism and kindness earned him the admiration, esteem and
affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A member of numerous civic and non-profit organizations,
Raymond Schimmer is a member of the Child Welfare League of America's
advisory board and the Chair of CWLA's Walker Trieschman advisory board,
as well as President of the New York State Coalition for Children's
Mental Health Services and President of the board of Albany Academy for
Girls; furthermore, he has served as Vice-President of the New York
State Chapter 853 Schools Coalition and the board of the Council of
Family and Child Caring Agencies; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Raymond Schimmer has served as an adjunct
professor at The Rockefeller College of the State University of New York
and has published many important articles on residential care and
nonprofits; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Raymond Schimmer has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Raymond Schimmer upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to Northern Rivers Family Services and
Parsons Child and Family Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Raymond Schimmer.
