LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Charles Touhey upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by Green Tech High Charter
School

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Charles Touhey upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by Green Tech High Charter School; he will be honored at its First
Annual Green Tech High Honors the Community Banquet on Friday, June 13,
2014, at UAlbany, SUNY, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Charles Touhey is the President of Touhey and Associates, a
commercial leasing company in Albany, New York; a former middle school
teacher in Albany's South End neighborhood, and an adjunct instructor in
African American Literature and Black and White Relations in America, he
has been a passionate advocate for culturally relevant teaching materi-
als and resources for teacher development; and
WHEREAS, Charles Touhey is the Founder of the Touhey Family Foundation
which supports teachers in Albany City Schools around culturally rele-
vant teaching materials and activities; in 2013, the foundation provided
such materials to more than 150 Albany City School teachers; this dedi-
cated man established a Multicultural Collection at the College of St.
Rose's Patricia Standish Curriculum Library in 2001; the collection
continues to be used by student teachers and faculty, and serves as a
resource for teachers throughout the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Charles Touhey has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, From 1976 to 1981, he was an elected member of the Albany
Board of Education, and from 1991 to 1995 he served as Chairman of the
Board of Trustees of WMHT Public Television; in addition, he was a
member of the Arbor Hill Elementary School Community Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Charles Touhey has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Charles Touhey has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Charles Touhey upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Green Tech High Charter School; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charles Touhey.
