LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Gary M. McIlwain, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Gary M. McIlwain of Newark, New York died on Wednesday, April
16, 2014, at the age of 61; and
WHEREAS, Born the son of Earl and Geraldine (Coffey) McIlwain on
Sunday, January 11, 1953, in Endicott, New York, Gary M. McIlwain
attended and graduated from Clyde-Savannah High School in 1972, and then
attended Auburn Community College; and
WHEREAS, Gary M. McIlwain distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, From 1976 until 1980, Gary M. McIlwain served with the Clyde
Police Department; he then served as a Newark Police Officer, retiring
from the esteemed position in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Directly after his retirement, Gary M. McIlwain joined the
Wayne County Sheriff's Department; in addition, he served as Arcadia
Town Supervisor for several years, and as an Animal Cruelty Officer; and
WHEREAS, Gary M. McIlwain's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A soft spoken man with a love for his community, Gary M.
McIlwain was a member of St. Michael's Church in Newark, and a founding
member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, Chapter 17; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Earl McIlwain, Gary M. McIlwain is
survived by his wife of 38 years, Marlene; daughters, Crystal (Peter)
and Kayli (Joshua); granddaughter, Mackenzie; mother, Geraldine; sister,
Kelly (Michael); brothers, Larry, Mike (Tami) and David; as well as
several nieces, nephews and special friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Gary M. McIlwain leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Gary M. McIlwain, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Gary M. McIlwain.
