LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega upon the
occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Corsairs Cup Award
by the Newburgh Rowing Club
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega has given not only of her time
and energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dr. Michele
Winchester-Vega upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2014 Corsairs Cup Award by the Newburgh Rowing Club; she will be honored
on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Third Annual Corsairs Cup Dinner,
aboard the River Rose, in Newburgh, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Newburgh Rowing Club is a not-for-profit organization
based at the Ward Brothers Memorial Park in the City of Newburgh that
teaches the sport of rowing, emphasizing access and excellence; the
Corsairs Cup Award is presented annually to a generous benefactor in
appreciation of their dedication to supporting this worthy organiza-
tion's mission; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega is the owner of Dr. Michele
Winchester-Vega and Associates of New Windsor, New York, which is the
largest group private practice in Orange County, and serves children,
adolescents, couples, families and adults; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega has spent over 30 years working
within the mental health, academic and addictions arena; the author of
numerous articles in her field, she has also trained and mentored count-
less professionals; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega graduated with an MSW from Colum-
bia University School of Social Work, and a DSW from Yeshiva University
School of Social Work; she has attended post-graduate training at
Harvard, NYU, and a variety of family/marital therapy trainings; this
skilled healer has held positions of Caseworker, Clinic Supervisor, and
Director of Clinical Training in large human service agencies; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega has been called upon to contrib-
ute her time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Committed to giving back to the community, Dr. Michele
Winchester-Vega has been nicknamed the "Million Dollar Woman" for help-
ing to raise significant funds for a variety of causes; in addition, she
has served on the Council of Social Work Women's Commission in Washing-
ton, D.C., the boards of The Community Foundation of Orange and Sulli-
van, the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill, and on Kidz4Causes.com;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega has
displayed throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega upon the occasion of her designation
as recipient of the 2014 Corsairs Cup Award by the Newburgh Rowing Club;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega.
