LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Stephen T. Bowers posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition at the Rensselaer
County Honor-A-Deceased Veteran Ceremony on July 14, 2014

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace, deserve a
special salute; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Stephen T. Bowers posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition at the Rensselaer County Honor-A-Deceased Veteran
Ceremony; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Sunday, July
14, 2014, at the Rensselaer County Legislature, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Honor-A-Deceased Veteran Ceremony is held monthly in
honor of one courageous man or woman from Rensselaer County, who has
served in the United States Armed Forces; local veterans and government
officials gather with the honoree's family to celebrate the veteran's
life, and recognize their military career and accomplishments in civil-
ian life; and
WHEREAS, Stephen T. Bowers was born on November 18, 1944, in Albany,
New York, the son of Stephen Bender Bowers and Estelle Katherine Lamb
Bowers; he grew up in Snyder's Lake, New York, and is a graduate of
Vincentian Institute; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man served his country honorably as a member of
the United States Air Force from 1965-1969, contributing his time and
efforts as a radio repair specialist; and
WHEREAS, Stephen T. Bowers exceptional service earned him the National
Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return to civilian life, Stephen T. Bowers began his
career as an electronic radio technician at Wells Communication
Services, where he would be employed for over 40 years; in 1981, Stephen
married his wife, the former Barbara M. Beaudoin; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Stephen T. Bowers was a member of
American Legion Post No. 1489 for 37 years, and served on the annual
Memorial Day Parade Committee; in addition, he enjoyed such activities
as woodworking, reading, spending time with family, and camping with his
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Stephen T. Bowers died on March 7, 2014, at the age of 69; he
is survived by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Melissa; and four grand-
children, Shae', Dominique, Madison, and Arron, all of whom feel privi-
leged to have been a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements;
and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad, this
remarkable man demonstrated his love for his country and merits forever-
more, the highest respect of his State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Stephen T. Bowers posthumously upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-De-
ceased Veteran Ceremony; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Stephen T. Bowers.
