LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Andrea Goldberger upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2014 President's Award by the Capi-
tal District Area Labor Federation on June 5, 2014

WHEREAS, Labor unions, through the integrity and dedication of their
leadership, have assumed an essential and integral role in ensuring the
welfare, safety and economic stability of the workers of this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the efforts of those individuals who distinguish themselves in
service to the cause of working men and women in the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Andrea Goldberger upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2014 President's Award by the Capital District Area Labor Feder-
ation, to be celebrated at its 9th Annual Appreciation Gala on Thursday,
June 5, 2014, at The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Goldberger's affiliation with the labor movement began
in 1977, with her first job working in a grocery store where she became
a member of Local One of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters, now known as the
United Food & Commercial Workers; and
WHEREAS, Upon her graduation from Russell Sage College in 1983, Andrea
Goldberger went to work for her Union as an Organizer; throughout her
career with Local One, she has had the opportunity to represent members
in collective bargaining and grievance handling, work on legislative
issues and election campaigns, organize a Local Union Women's Network,
coordinate charity and United Way pacesetter projects, and coordinate
training programs for union stewards; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 10 years, Andrea Goldberger has worked for the
UFCW Local One Benefit Funds as the Administrative Director; in this
position she manages the Health Care and Retirement Benefit Plans that
UFCW Local One secures for its members; and
WHEREAS, Active in the UFCW Region One South Women's Network for many
years, Andrea Goldberger was instrumental in developing the Network's
Child Care Grant Program for UFCW members, and currently serves as the
Network's Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, As part of the Capital District Child Care Coalition, Andrea
Goldberger's steadfast advocacy for additional child care funding
resulted in the Facilitated Child Care Program offered through the Work-
force Development Institute (WDI); she subsequently served as Treasurer
of the WDI Board and currently serves as Chairman; and
WHEREAS, As Local One's Representative, Andrea Goldberger was a found-
ing Board member of the Capital District Area Labor Federation (CDALF),
and over the years has served on a number of CDALF committees; and
WHEREAS, As a CDALF Vice President and Trustee, Andrea Goldberger
facilitated the transition to the AFL-CIO regional federation structure
in the Capital District Area, and assisted the effort to unite affil-
iates to mobilize as a movement; today, she proudly works with local
affiliates in her role as Secretary-Treasurer of the Capital District
Area Labor Federation; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Goldberger resides in Colonie with her husband, Bryan;
she is the proud mother of two children, Matthew and Alexandra; and
WHEREAS, Fighting for social and economic justice is a way of life for
Andrea Goldberger; she has rendered dedicated, faithful, conscientious

and valuable service to the Capital District Area Labor Federation,
serving with loyalty, honor and distinction; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Andrea Goldberger upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the 2014 President's Award by the Capital District Area Labor
Federation on June 5, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andrea Goldberger.
