LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eric Snyder upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2014 Youth Leadership Award by the Gay,
Lesbian & Straight Education Network on June 13, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Eric
Snyder upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014
Youth Leadership Award by the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network,
to be celebrated at its 16th Anniversary Gala Celebration, A Breakfast
at Tiffany's GLSEN Formal Affair, on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Wash-
ington Park Lake House, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1990, the Gay, Lesbian & Straight
Education Network (GLSEN) has worked to assure that each member of every
school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orien-
tation, gender identity, or gender expression; as a local chapter, GLSEN
focuses its efforts on the youth and educators of the eight counties
surrounding the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, GLSEN of the New York Capital Region was founded by educators
in the Capital Region nearly 20 years ago, when they saw the need to
create safe spaces for LGBTQA Youth; this local group became officially
part of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network nationally, late
in 1997 and was accredited as the New York Capital Region Chapter in
1998; and
WHEREAS, A graduating senior from Averill Park High School, Eric
Snyder was nominated for this auspicious award for renovating space at
The Pride Center of The Capital Region as part of his completion of The
Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scouting Program; and
WHEREAS, Eric Snyder, in achieving this high honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence he
brings to his family, friends, community and school; and
WHEREAS, As Eric Snyder takes his leave of Averill Park High School to
continue his education at Tufts University, he bequeaths a legacy of
academic achievement, school involvement and community service to which
others may aspire; and
WHEREAS, Eric Snyder stands poised on the threshold of a broad and
challenging world; a testament to the love and nurturing care of his
family, friends and school; and
WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Eric Snyder represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eric Snyder upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2014 Youth Leadership Award, to commend him for his outstanding
achievement and to extend to him the best wishes of this Legislative
Body for a future of purposeful success and well-being, fully confident
of his response to a promising future and appreciative of the model he
represents for all aspiring young people of the Empire State; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eric Snyder.
