LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michelle Feder upon the occasion of
being selected to receive the 2014 University at Albany President's
Award for Exemplary Community Engagement on April 25, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michelle Feder in partnership with Evelyn Sanles, Director, Club Zoe,
Inc., and Hannah Attard upon the occasion of being selected to receive
the 2014 University at Albany President's Award for Exemplary Community
Engagement, which was celebrated at an Award Ceremony at the University
at Albany, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed award honors University at Albany community
partnerships which are enhancing public well-being in the Capital Region
and beyond; their community engagement is a collaboration between higher
education institutions and external partners in the mutually beneficial
exchange of knowledge and resources to address areas of public need; and
WHEREAS, Michelle Feder is recognized for her exemplary community-en-
gaged student leadership and service in developing a long-standing part-
nership with Club Zoe, Inc., an after-school program serving disadvan-
taged youth in Albany's South End; and
WHEREAS, Also being honored is Club Zoe's Executive Director, Evelyn
Sanles, who has worked tirelessly to provide a safe and positive place
for at-risk youth through academic, recreational, and other types of
programs; additionally, UAlbany student Hannah Attard is recognized for
her dedicated partnership with Michelle Feder in this effort; and
WHEREAS, Michelle Feder is a UAlbany Alumna with a Bachelor of Arts
degree, Class of 2011; currently, she is a Candidate, Ph.D., School of
Education; and
WHEREAS, While an undergraduate student, Michelle Feder created a free
Tae Kwon Do program for youth at Club Zoe, Inc., teaching students in
classes once a week for six years with Hannah Attard serving as an
assistant instructor; and
WHEREAS, This dedicated woman has raised funds to support the Tae Kwon
Do program, and organized food drives to help retain the club's dining
program, engaging other UAlbany students in the effort; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Michelle Feder and Evelyn Sanles have collab-
orated to recruit more tutors for the Study Buddies program, and address
other needs as well; and
WHEREAS, Michelle Feder's leadership and dedication have made a major
difference in the availability and quality of Club Zoe programs, while
helping to form and expand partnerships with UAlbany; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when indi-
viduals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michelle Feder upon the occasion of being selected to receive
the 2014 University at Albany President's Award for Exemplary Community
Engagement on April 25, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted Michelle Feder.
