LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Guy Stephenson upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2014 Wilmington Citizen of the Year
award by the Whiteface Region Business and Tourism Center

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Guy Stephenson
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014 Wilmington
Citizen of the Year award by the Whiteface Regional Business and Tourism
Center; this auspicious occasion was celebrated on Tuesday, March 18,
2014 at the annual Community Dinner at the Hungry Trout Restaurant,
Wilmington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Guy Stephenson has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, A native of Wilmington, Guy Stephenson retired from the state
Olympic Regional Development Authority in July 2009, having worked at
the Mount Van Hoevenberg sliding center for 30 years; he now dedicates
his time to skiing and making his community a better place; and
WHEREAS, Guy Stephenson has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A member of numerous volunteer organizations, Guy Stephenson
is a charter trustee of the Wilmington Historical Society and is also
active on the town's Cemetery Committee, where his efforts have been
vital in restoring damaged graves; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man is the current chairman of the Wilmington
Fire District after serving ably as fire commissioner for over a decade;
and
WHEREAS, Guy Stephenson is also a major contributor to the Wilmington
Historical Society's new book, WILMINGTON AND THE WHITEFACE REGION; he
and several members of the society met regularly each week for months,
working tirelessly to craft this book highlighting their area's rich
history; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Guy Stephenson has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable man has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Guy Stephenson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2014 Wilmington Citizen of the Year award by the Whiteface Region
Business and Tourism Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Guy Stephenson.
