LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Richard L. Berger, distin-
guished citizen, and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Rick" L. Berger of Buffalo, New York, died on Febru-
ary 25, 2014, at the age of 67; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Berger, was born on January 19, 1947, in Erie,
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man graduated from Bowling Green State Univer-
sity and served his country honorably as a member of the United States
Air Force, where he attained the high rank of captain; and
WHEREAS, After leaving the Air Force, Richard L. Berger had a long
business career which took him all over the country; he worked for Coca-
Cola in Dallas, Texas, and later joined JTL Corp., a Coca-Cola bottling
company based in Chattanooga, Tennessee as Vice-President; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Richard L. Berger moved to Buffalo to work for
Advanced Refractory Technologies, where his hard work and determination
helped him achieve great success as he climbed the corporate ladder; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Berger next became chief executive officer of
Mykro Myclex, Filawound Technologies and Spaulding Fabrication before
being named President and Chief Executive Officer of the parent company,
Spaulding Composites; he would serve in numerous other executive roles
before returning to Western New York in 2001 to work for NanoDynamics, a
leading manufacturer of nanotechnology materials and products; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Berger's long and successful career led to him
starting his own business consulting firm, InVentures Group; in addi-
tion, he worked for First Wave Technologies, before finishing his career
as President of Magnetic Seal Corp. in Warren, Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Committed to the betterment of his community Rick Berger
served on the boards of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, the
Library Foundation and Riverkeeper; he was also involved with the West-
minster Economic Development Initiative and was an elder at Westminster
Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, Rick Berger's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Rick Berger is survived by his wife, Nancy; their son, Troy;
and his sister Lin Blakely; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Rick Berger leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Richard L. Berger, distinguished citizen, and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Richard L. Berger.
