LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Frank Truatt upon the occasion of cele-
brating 20 years of independent ownership of WTBQ Radio Station on July
1, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched by
the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have helped
shape the history of broadcasting in their area; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Frank Truatt upon the occasion of celebrating 20 years of independent
ownership of WTBQ Radio Station; this auspicious occasion will be held
on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, on the grounds of WTBQ; and
WHEREAS, WTBQ is an independent community radio station broadcasting
from Warwick, New York, featuring live local talk shows, and specialty
programming along with Consumer Guru, Clark Howard, John Tesh with
"Intelligence for Your Life," and the best music all night; and
WHEREAS, The last locally-owned radio station in Orange County, New
York, WTBQ broadcasts on 1110 AM and 93.5 FM, throughout Orange County,
part of Sullivan County, and Northern New Jersey, as well as Pike County
in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Although WTBQ broadcasts on AM during the daylight hours
only, it has streamed on the internet 24 hours a day since 1999, the
first radio station in the Hudson Valley area to do so; in addition, it
was the first radio station with a website, back in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, WTBQ became one of the first American AM radio
stations to use an FM translator when it began airing in January of
2008; and
WHEREAS, In July of 1969, local media mogul Ed Klein brought WTBQ to
air with studios originally located in the village of Warwick; in 1982,
it was purchased by polka king Jimmy Sturr, who two years later, moved
the studios to the professional building located in the nearby village
of Florida, New York; after another change in ownership, the station
went silent in 1992, but returned to the air under the station's current
owner Frank Truatt in July of 1994; and
WHEREAS, Frank Truatt, affectionately known as Smokin', has created a
radio station that is unique in stature and in content, and one of the
last privately owned community radio stations in the country; and
WHEREAS, The No. 1 Community Radio Station in Orange County, The Wall
Street Journal recently ran a story and pictures of the WTBQ "Barn"
Station, and Frank Truatt himself; and
WHEREAS, Frank Truatt has, throughout his career and purposeful life,
served his community with integrity and devotion, continuously striving
to meet the needs of his listeners through entertainment and enlight-
enment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Frank Truatt upon the occasion of celebrating 20 years of inde-
pendent ownership of WTBQ Radio Station on July 1, 2014; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Frank Truatt.
