LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Matthew P. Stoddard upon the occasion
of his designation for special recognition by the Hudson Valley Area
Labor Federation on June 5, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the efforts of individuals who distinguish themselves in service
to the cause of working men and women in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Matthew P. Stoddard upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation; he will be
honored at its 8th Annual Labor Heroes Celebration on Thursday, June 5,
2014, at The Clubhouse at Patriot Hills, Stony Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, Matthew P. Stoddard, President and Business Agent of Interna-
tional Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing
Ironworkers Local (BSOIW) 417 is the recipient of the Hudson Valley Area
Labor Federation's 2014 Phil "Toppy" Moresco Award; and
WHEREAS, Matthew P. Stoddard graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in
1981, and was accepted into the Ironworkers Local 417 Apprentice Train-
ing Program immediately following graduation; he has been engaged with
union activities ever since; and
WHEREAS, Passionate about his work, Matthew P. Stoddard is an active
member of the Hudson Valley Building Trades, as well as Rockland and
Westchester Putnam Building Trades; and
WHEREAS, Matthew P. Stoddard was extremely active in all Central Labor
Councils in the Hudson Valley and the area Labor Federation; prior to
his election as President in 2012, and Business Agent in 2007, of Iron-
workers Local 417, he served his local as an Executive Board Member and
as Recording Secretary; and
WHEREAS, This committed leader has also served as a trustee on the
Pension, Annuity, and Health Funds, Delegate to Ironworkers District
Council, and Coordinator for the Ironworkers Apprentice Program; he also
serves as the local's Political Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, Matthew P. Stoddard's
priority has been to strengthen the labor movement in the Hudson Valley
by keeping jobs local and being active in the community; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Erin, and their son,
Matthew, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Matthew P. Stoddard upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation's 2014 Phil "Toppy"
Moresco Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matthew P. Stoddard.
