LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring attorney Gerald N. Jacobowitz upon the
celebration of his 50th year of legal practice

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
attorney Gerald N. Jacobowitz upon the celebration of his 50th year of
legal practice; this milestone will be celebrated on Thursday, June 5,
2014, at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Gerald N. Jacobowitz has distinguished
himself in the practice of law, earning the admiration, esteem and
affection of his colleagues, peers, community and clients; and
WHEREAS, Gerald N. Jacobowitz is a graduate of Colgate University,
magna cum laude - Phi Beta Kappa, and received his Juris Doctor degree
in 1958 from the New York University School of Law, where he was a John
Ben Snow Root Tilden Scholar; he was admitted to the New York State Bar
in 1959 and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court
for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the United States
Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit and the United States Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, Gerald N. Jacobowitz is a senior partner in Jacobowitz &
Gubits, LLP, working in Environmental/Land Use, Real Estate, Municipal
Law, and Business Law; he has been village and town attorney for munici-
palities throughout the Hudson Valley and, on behalf of his private
clients, has helped bring to fruition numerous successful projects; and
WHEREAS, Widely respected in his profession, Gerald N. Jacobowitz has
been a leader in the organized bar as a member of the New York State Bar
Association, Municipal Law Section in which he has been a member of the
Executive Committee since 1982, secretary, second and first vice-chair,
and chair from 1993-1995; he is an original co-editor of THE MUNICIPAL
LAWYER, the official publication of the Section; he is also a member of
the Orange County Bar Association, where he served as president, direc-
tor, treasurer and vice-president, and is also the original co-editor of
THE ORANGE COUNTY LAWYER, the official publication of the Orange County
Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, Long committed to community service, Gerald N. Jacobowitz
served as a founding director of Orange County Pro-Bono Legal Services,
Inc., and has continued to serve as a member of the Orange County Plan-
ning Board since 1997; in addition, he has served as a director of Home-
town Bank of the Hudson Valley, formerly known as the Walden Federal
Savings and Loan Association, for forty-eight years; and
WHEREAS, Gerald N. Jacobowitz was vice chairman of the Orange County
Charter Revision Commission from 1994-1996; he also serves as a director
of the Meyer and Lillian Jacobowitz Charitable Foundation and he is a
founding director and served as president of the board of directors for
the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan from 2010-2012; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor attorney Gerald N. Jacobowitz upon the celebration of his 50th
year of legal practice; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gerald N. Jacobowitz.
