LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Boys and Girls High School
Debate Team and Coach Thomas Paisley upon the occasion of capturing the
Tri-State Championship
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Boys and Girls High School Debate Team and Coach Thomas Paisley upon the
occasion of capturing the Tri-State Championship on Sunday, March 2,
2014, at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls High School Debate Team captured the Tri-
State Championship with a victory over Christ the King High School by a
score of 93-89; and
WHEREAS, The topic of the championship debate was "Civil Disobedience
or Majority Rules"; Boys and Girls High School argued the affirmative in
support of civil disobedience while Christ the King argued the negative
in support of majority rule; the Boys and Girls team were able to effec-
tively present their position in favor of civil disobedience to a
resounding victory; and
WHEREAS, The remarkable talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Thomas Paisley, a skilled and inspirational
tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into excellence;
and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls High School Debate Team's overall record
is outstanding, and the team members were loyally and enthusiastically
supported by family, fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Coach Thomas Paisley has done a superb job in guiding, mold-
ing and inspiring these young debaters toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls High School Debate Team has proven them-
selves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably
on their school; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Boys and Girls High School Debate Team; its members:
Helema Cole, Calvin Brown Jr., Izaiah Wright, Brandi Segar, Emmanuel
Gay, Julian Johnson; and Coach Thomas Paisley upon the occasion of
capturing the Tri-State Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Boys and Girls High School Debate Team, and to Coach
Thomas Paisley.
