LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Paul Chauvet upon the occasion of his
designation as the recipient of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Excellence in Professional Service
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Paul
Chauvet, Senior Linux and UNIX Systems Administrator in Computer
Services, upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient of a
2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service, to
be celebrated at SUNY New Paltz's first faculty meeting, and the first
classified staff gathering in the fall of 2014; and
WHEREAS, Faculty and staff who receive the Chancellor's Award for
Excellence have served their students, fellow faculty and staff, campus-
es, and communities with the utmost distinction, and have demonstrated
extraordinary dedication and service to SUNY New Paltz; Paul Chauvet is
one such individual; and
WHEREAS, As Senior Linux and UNIX Systems Administrator in Computer
Services, Paul Chauvet supports an array of hardware, software, and
systems that serve SUNY New Paltz as a whole, and support the efforts of
the other technical and application staff within the Information Tech-
nology area; and
WHEREAS, Paul Chauvet is responsible for all aspects of SUNY New
Paltz's web collection, e-mail, and web-based application servers, all
system backups, every phase of project management, and the entire virtu-
alization process of the campus; and
WHEREAS, Paul Chauvet's successful completion of large and complex
information technology projects led to his serving as chair of the SUNY
New Paltz's Information Security Oversight committee which, under his
skillful leadership, has efficiently addressed Information Security
Oversight audit deficiencies, and tackled the extensive and complex list
of standards SUNY requires each campus to develop; and
WHEREAS, Beyond these efforts, Paul Chauvet initiated an internal
campaign that includes a website, blog, and printed collateral to
educate the campus on information security and its importance in main-
taining a healthy organization; he constantly makes sure these critical
systems are safe and functioning properly, and has often demonstrated
his willingness to respond quickly to extraordinary situations; and
WHEREAS, As a New Paltz alumnus and former student assistant, Paul
Chauvet is especially sensitive to students' needs, and to providing
opportunities that will extend their education outside the classroom;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of individuals such as Paul Chauvet, who, by providing their
skills and talents to our schools, work to support our proud tradition
of public education; and
WHEREAS, Paul Chauvet has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of SUNY New Paltz, as well as on the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Paul Chauvet upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient
of a 2014 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional
Service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Paul Chauvet.
