LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the Bing-
hamton Country Club, celebrated on May 31, 2014

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge recreational facilities within our midst which
have made significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of the Binghamton Country Club, which was
celebrated with a golf tournament and dinner dance on Saturday, May 31,
2014, in Endwell, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1889, the Binghamton Country Club began as a nine-
hole riverside course near what is now Scarborough Drive in Endwell; and
WHEREAS, One of the oldest golf courses in the United States, this
esteemed club relocated to its present Robinson Hill Road location and
was designed by noted course architect A.W. Tillinghast, who gave it a
ringing endorsement; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud tradition, the Binghamton Country Club has
for many years served as one of the area's premiere locations for recre-
ation and social gatherings; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of its 125th Anniversary, club members played
in a special golf tournament, which included festivities to challenge
participants' on-course adaptability to golf equipment of a bygone era;
and
WHEREAS, The Binghamton Country Club can look back with pride on its
history of providing excellent service to the community, and can look
forward to carrying on its fine traditions for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those insti-
tutions which enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and
have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the 125th Anniversary of the Binghamton Country Club; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Binghamton Country Club.
