LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Father John V. O'Farrell upon the
occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service to
Our Lady of Victory Parish

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Father John
V. O'Farrell upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to Our Lady of Victory Parish in Floral Park, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Father John V. O'Farrell was first named Pastor of Our Lady
of Victory Parish on June 28, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Father John V. O'Farrell was formerly Associate Pastor at St.
Anthony of Padua in East Northport, New York; and
WHEREAS, This Brooklyn native's first positions included guidance
counselor and social studies teacher at Most Holy Trinity High School in
Williamsburg, New York, director of pupil personnel services at the
Diocese of Brooklyn, assistant principal at St. Francis Preparatory
School in Fresh Meadows, New York, and principal of Walt Whitman High
School in Huntington Station, New York, for more than 21 years; and
WHEREAS, After retiring from the South Huntington School District,
Father John V. O'Farrrell entered the Seminary of the Immaculate
Conception in Huntington, graduating in 2002; he completed his pastoral
and deaconate experience at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Centerport, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Father John V. O'Farrell holds a bachelor's degree in philos-
ophy and psychology from St. John's University, a master's degree in
counseling psychology from Fordham University, and a professional degree
in school administration and leadership from St. John's University; in
addition, he completed graduate work at New York University, Boston
University, and Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, Father John V. O'Farrell has brought to his ministry an over-
whelming spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties,
while always displaying the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Father John V. O'Farrell upon the occasion of his retirement
after many years of distinguished service to Our Lady of Victory Parish,
noting his unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary service
to God, man, and his community, and extending to him the heartfelt best
wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of purposeful success and
well-being; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father John V. O'Farrell.
