LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team,
Class of 1963-1964, upon the occasion of their induction into the 2014
SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team, Class of 1963-1964, upon the
occasion of their induction into the 2014 SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of
Fame, to be celebrated at an induction ceremony held during Alumni Week-
end on June 6-8, 2014; and
WHEREAS, In 1963, soccer debuted at SUNY Delhi in spectacular fashion
with the SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team completing its inaugural season
undefeated; and
WHEREAS, With their enthusiasm and emerging skills, the SUNY Delhi
Men's Soccer Team's spectators were enthralled, and their teamwork laid
a solid foundation for the future of the college's soccer program; and
WHEREAS, Business Professor and first-time coach, Eugene Whitney,
inspired a close-knit team of young SUNY Delhi Broncos, many of whom
were new to the sport; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team featured a strong defense
which held the opposition on average to less than one goal per game;
their undefeated season featured victories over Oneonta State, Cobles-
kill, Keystone Junior College, and Bard College; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team members included: Captain
Lynn E. Elliott, Paul M. Anish, John P. Betchick, Gerald N. Churchill,
Frank J. Cosentino, Jay C. Cummings, Robert C. Hodge, Stanley Hulbert,
Brian McGrath, Henry M. Miller, Charles Morgante, Richard V. Smith, John
Somers, Anthony W. Sylstra, Robin W. Turner, Donnelly C. Whitehead,
Harry Wilkerson, and Richard H. Wilson; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team provided a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team has clearly been an inspira-
tion to the youth of SUNY Delhi, as well as to the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for their impressive
dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team, Class of 1963-1964, upon
the occasion of their induction into the 2014 SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall
of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the SUNY Delhi Men's Soccer Team, Class of 1963-1964.
